Dallas residents are joining neighborhoods around the country for the 35th Annual National Night Out (NNO) on Oct. 2 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. This year District 3 and District 4 are coming together to celebrate a joint celebration at Glendale Park.

“National Night Out is annual is an opportunity for neighbors to get to know neighbors in a family-friendly environment,” Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Casey Thomas, II shared by phone with the North Dallas Gazette. The evening will feature food, fun, and entertainment by Mahogany and D.J. Luke.

According to Thomas, the event at Glendale Park will include city staff members from a variety of departments such as code enforcement. The city is seeking to make the citizens aware of the staff and departments available to assist them with a range of issues and concerns.

“We are inviting staff from the county to come as well,” he stated.

Another critical objective of NNO is to enhance the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a real sense of community.

“This is an opportunity for individuals to get to know their neighborhood police officer, when they are not there for business, not responding to a 9-1-1,” Casey shared.

An additional unique feature at this year’s event is for residents to learn more about the Safe Dallas efforts which feature free spay and neuter program being offered in specific Southern Dallas zip codes through the Spay Neuter Network.

Low-income pet owners in the designated zip codes can have Fido or Fluffy fixed as well as receive required shots and a microchip. To receive service residents must live in the following zip codes: 75116, 75134, 75203, 75207, 75208, 75210, 75211, 75212, 75215, 75216, 75217, 75223, 75224, 75226, 75227, 75228, 75232, 75233, 75236, 75237, 75241, 75249, and 75253.

According to Thomas, Dr. Daniel Prescott with Spay Neuter Network requested an opportunity to inform and educate the residents of Southern Dallas residents about the program. For more details visit spayneuternet.org.
